Marc Assaf, Customer Solutions Engineer

Customer Solutions Engineer, Bell Canada

“Working in IT, I always feel like I’m contributing, and using my brain to the max! It’s rewarding.”

Marc was involved in a big project for Loto-Quebec in 2008. He worked with a team that designed a solution to connect 8,000 terminals across the province. It took a year and a half to make it happen. “It was really complex and had many challenges.” But they got the job done. “It was really rewarding. Every time a person in Québec buys a Lotto 6/49 ticket, I know I helped build the network that is behind it!”

Snapshot

As a customer solutions engineer at Bell Canada, Marc is involved in telecommunications solutions design for large organizations. You may be familiar with Bell’s residential solutions – TV, Internet, Mobility and the like. He works in a team which provides solutions for commercial customers.

Marc leads a team of 20 customer service engineers who look after top twenty business customers. For example, Marc’s projects include network solutions for major banks. When you use an ATM to withdraw money from your account, Marc and his team may well have created the network that makes it possible. “An ATM is like a big computer. But it has to be connected to another computer that knows about your bank account.” His designs connect the ATM to a central computer. This ensures your request goes to the right place, you get the right amount of money out of the ATM – and that it really comes from your bank account!

A Day in the Life

Rarely at his desk, Marc is often offsite working with customers. He recently worked closely with Air Canada to improve its wi-fi services both in airports and its own head office.

“I love working with so many different people at Bell! Whether it’s with IT people, business people or with the sales team to align with their strategies. He also enjoys his own team. “I want to ensure my team has what they need to be efficient and continute to enjoy what they do!” Marc stays on top of their needs. If a team member wants more training he makes sure to provide it.

“There are so many opportunities at Bell Canada. If you like telecommunications you will find a place at Bell.” Based on his personal experience Marc strongly believes there is a lot of room to grow within the company.
