"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it...
Apple Founder Steve Jobs, commencement address at Stanford University (2005)
Steve Jobs created more cool tech stuff than anyone who ever lived – from the first Apple computers to the iPhone and the iPad. He also started a company called Pixar which created Toy Story – the world’s first computer-animated feature film.
Jobs had a tech career that pushed the limits of what was possible through creativity, vision and passion. He knew tech but he also had a talent for design and an instinct for great marketing.
His tech career was exceptional but he wasn’t an exception. Today’s tech careers are filled with people like him who use technologies in new, creative ways and love what they do. They aren’t geeky or dull or glued to a computer screen for one monotonous hour after another.
Because tech has a huge image problem as being geeky and dull, we created the CareerMash Cool Stuff section to help get you thinking about tech as it is today – creative, cool and fun. It’s not just the programming and coding that make things work. It’s the things themselves – video games, mobile apps, websites and all the different ways we stay connected to each other. It’s smart cars, smart cities and smart homes that help save energy and the environment. It’s smart healthcare that’s saving lives and robotic artificial limbs that let the disabled do what everyone else can do.
Who knows? You might be the next Steve Jobs. Or Mark Zukerberg of Facebook. Or (put your name and tech achievement here!)
Start to see tech differently by visiting the Cool Stuff sections:
